Ian Mayes is a guitarist and bassist based on the South Coast of the UK. Predominantly holding a background in blues guitar, Ian discovered jazz when he attended University, leading him to establish The Tom Belbin Trio. Ian has performed all over the U.K with The Tom Belbin Trio for many prestigious clients, including The Savoy hotel, The House of Commons, Queens College Cambridge, The RAC, The Oxford Fashion Studio, Mr Fogg’s Residence, Wiltons Music Hall and many more. He spent time in New Zealand with an originals band before attending University, writing new material and touring the South Coast. His background has lead him to favour jazz guitarists that have a blues sensibility in a contemporary context.
As well as performing Ian teaches privately, and has spent two years helping on the Music Tech course at Chichester College. He has taught on several workshops including his own workshops and for the Chichester Jazz Academy.
With his new band, Ian is performing the music he loves. A range of blues contemporary music that lends itself towards the jazz canon. He will be performing a range of compositions by guitarists such as Julian Lage, John Scofield, Charlie Hunter and Mark Lettieri. Ian is joined by some great musicians, who he met during his time at Chichester University.
